An ultrasound scan is a painless examination without side effects to visualize organs, soft tissues and blood vessels. Ultrasound waves bounce off organs to create a multidimensional image. A probe with gel will be moved over the designated area by a technologist or radiologist. This examination is used to detect diseases, damaged tissue, abnormal growths and other health problems. Please allow 10 to 30 minutes in total for the examination.
Offered at Centre Radiologique de l’Estrie
A mammography is the most effective test for detecting breast cancer. This procedure uses a low dose of radiation and is known for its reliability. A technologist will explain the process and then place your breasts, one at a time, on a flat surface. Your breast will be compressed and images will be taken. This will show any abnormality. This lasts about 15 minutes. Before you leave, the technologist will check the quality of the radiological images. If necessary, you will be asked to repeat the procedure. There are 2 types of mammography: one for diagnosis and the other for screening.
Offered at Centre Radiologique de l’Estrie
Bone densitometry is used to calculate the density of your bones using low dose X-rays. This test is painless and fast, taking between 15 to 30 minutes. You will need to lie down on an examination table and remain still while the camera collects the data needed to measure your bone density. The results will help your healthcare professional to determine whether you have osteoporosis, bone loss or high risk of fracture.
Offered at Both Centres
General radiography uses X-rays to produce radiological images. These are very effective in diagnosing disease, bone loss, fractures or any other problem. This will allow your healthcare professional to direct you, if necessary, to more specialized examinations. It takes about 5 to 15 minutes for the procedure.
* Imaging results are available on CD, for an additional fee.
